Alberta Donna “Birdie” Richter was born Jan. 26, 1934, in Omaha, the daughter of Robert Ray and Mabel (Martin) Nixon, and passed away Oct. 8, 2026, in Lincoln, at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 12 days.

Birdie grew up in Nehawka, where she attended school and graduated with the Class of 1953.

On June 6, 1953, Birdie was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Richter. To this union, two daughters, Katherine and Diane, were born. Birdie was employed at Goodyear Rubber Company in Lincoln, where she dedicated 28 years of service before officially retiring on March 3, 1995, alongside Dick.

In September of 1994, Dick and Birdie moved to Stover, Missouri, where they enjoyed ranch life, raising cattle and spending time at the beautiful lakes in the area. Birdie enjoyed crocheting, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and making cherished memories with those she loved. Following Dick’s passing in February 2007, Birdie continued living on the ranch, a place she called home for many years, until returning to Nebraska in February of 2025.

Birdie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mabel Nixon; her husband, Dick Richter; daughter, Diane Powell; and two grandchildren, Adam Barnhill and Jenny Powell.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Gary Prochnow of Pleasant Dale; granddaughter, Nicole Colson; two grandsons, Justin and Travis Powell; two step-grandsons, Ryan Prochnow and wife, Chelsea, and Scott Prochnow; five great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

A graveside service will be Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. at the Seward Cemetery.
