Flock agreement part of review

Payment for the Flock license plate-reading cameras that were briefly planned for use in Seward in 2025 may move from Seward County to Saline County for the next two years when an agreement is finalized. Read more in the Oct 7 Independent.

TODAY - Republicans meet

The Seward County Nebraska Republicans invite any registered Republicans to attend monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. (subject to change). Meeting locations may vary. Each month, meeting information and location will be posted on their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SewardNEGOP and their website at SewardGOP.org.

TODAY - Gathering Table

Make plans to meet at The Gathering Table (Milford Mennonite Fellowship Hall at 920 F St.). The table is set on the second Thursday of each month for this complementary meal. Come anytime between 5:30 and 7 p.m.

TODAY - VFW auxiliary meeting

Seward VFW Auxiliary Post 4755 meets the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the VFW Club, 243 S. Ninth St., in Seward.

Attention candidates. You should have received an email from the SCI with questions to be included in the general election preview section that will be printed in the Oct. 14 Independent. Please reply ASAP, and don't miss the questions included in the email.

TOMORROW - Flu shots

Flu shot clinics will begin at the area senior centers in Milford, Seward and Utica. Shots are currently available at the Family Medical Centers, with no appointment necessary from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and in Seward on Saturday, from 8-11:30 a.m., as well. The first clinic will be Friday, Oct. 9, from 1-2 p.m. at the Seward Senior Center. On Friday, Oct. 15, from 1-2 p.m., shots will be available at the Milford Senior Center. The Utica Senior Center will host its clinic Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 10-11 a.m.

TOMORROW - Deadline to sign up

Fridays for you: Medicare updates and open enrollment information will be presented Friday, Oct. 16, at noon on the third floor at Memorial Hospital. A light lunch will be provided. RSVP by Friday, Oct. 9 by calling (402) 646-4707.

Funeral services

SCHROEDER, Christine

Visitation for Christee Schroeder will be today, Oct. 8, from 3-8 p.m. at Volzke Funeral Home in Seward. The family will greet friends from 6:30-8 p.m. A graveside service will be Friday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Seward Cemetery.

Sports

CU runners honored - The outing Oct. 3 at the Briar Cliff Invitational yielded a Concordia University cross country sweep of GPAC Runner of the Week awards. On Oct. 7, the league office recognized junior Vaughn Hendrickson as GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Runner of the Week and freshman Hope Beck as GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Runner of the Week.
