Seward, Milford herald new title as top towns for retirees

This month, World Atlas ranked Seward and Milford in the top eight towns in Nebraska for retirees. The site references the towns' proximity to amenities, entertainment and healthcare and its calm, sweet atmosphere as selling points. Jays split in triangular

The Seward baseball team split its games in a triangular at South Sioux City April 13. Seward defeated South Sioux City 17-7 in the opener, pulling away with eight runs in the top of the seventh. Braiden Herring was 3-4, and Brenden Ruth hit an inside-the-park home run. The Jays lost to Lincoln Christian 13-2 in the second game. LC pitchers held SHS hitters to just two hits, singles by Cale Gardiner and Quin Berner. Seward is scheduled to host Crete-Milford this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

Clippers finish third

After dropping its Trailblazer Conference semifinal to Beatrice April 11, the Malcolm baseball team came back April 13 with a 2-1 win over Wahoo/Bishop Neumann in the third-place game. Maddox Meyer pitched a complete game one-hitter, striking out nine. Logan McGreer was 2-2 with a double. Malcolm is scheduled to host Plattsmouth today at 4:30 p.m.

Crete-Milford drops two

The Crete-Milford baseball team defeated Fairbury 12-0 April 12 but then lost to Adams Central 3-1 and Lincoln Lutheran 9-6 April 13. Jeffrey Kuncl struck out five in six innings against Adams Central, and Alex Eltze drove in two against Lincoln Lutheran. CM is scheduled to play at Seward today at 4:30 p.m.

SHS girls second in conference

The Seward girls' soccer team finished as the Central Conference tournament runner-up April 13. After beating Columbus Lakeview in the opening round, Seward played Schuyler in the semifinals and won 2-1. Ava Fisher scored both goals. The win but the Jays in the final against Northwest, and the Vikings dominated the final 10-0. Seward is scheduled to play at Aurora April 16.
