Board to discuss tires

A scrap tire collection on April 19 far exceeded county officials’ expectations.
The collection event, originally scheduled for April 19 and 20 at the Seward County Fairgrounds, closed early – by mid-Friday afternoon – as the county reached its 350-ton weight capacity.
County commissioners were to discuss options for additional collection events on April 23.

Council moves contracts forward

At its April 16 meeting, the Seward City Council:
• approved a construction contract with BIC Construction in the amount of $2,498,000 for Phase I of the Civic Center renovation project, to be paid from the Langworthy Trust. Parts of the project may be reconsidered to bring the cost down to the $2.2 million budget.
• authorized administrative discretion for adding processing fees for credit card transactions when patrons pay for city services. The city is processing more cards than it used to, but card fees charged by credit companies are increasing, and the city is losing money on those fees. Administration will have the authority to decide when and where those fees will be implemented.

Marge Nagel retires from career centered around flowers

Marge Nagel is keenly aware of the role flowers play throughout peoples’ lives.
Bouquets for the bridal party, plants for the new mom and dad, small bouquets for dance recitals and graduations, table arrangements for holidays and special occasions, get well flowers, and flowers paying tribute to a loved one’s life all commemorate key points in life.
As she retires from a lifelong relationship with Merle’s Flowers in Seward, Nagel has been touched by the messages and comments she’s heard from others about how her flowers have touched their lives. One couple told them she had done the flowers not just for their wedding many years ago, but also for the weddings of their three daughters.
