At its April 16 meeting, the Seward City Council approved a construction contract with BIC Construction in the amount of $2,498,000 for Phase I of the Civic Center renovation project, to be paid from the Langworthy Trust. As she retires from a lifelong relationship with Merle’s Flowers in Seward, Marge Nagel has been touched by the messages and comments she’s heard from others about how her flowers have touched their lives. One couple told them she had done the flowers not just for their wedding many years ago, but also for the weddings of their three daughters.

Husband and wife duo Lisa and Darek Kouma, who live on a farm just west of Staplehurst, turned an idea into reality with their creation of Geocharged and the help of Lisa’s twin sister, Angela Schukar.
Although they did not know what it would become at the time, the Koumas invested in a foundation of their product several years ago when they put up four commercial poultry barns to be part of Costco’s rotisserie chicken project in Fremont.

The Centennial baseball team got its second win of 2024 yesterday, beating Maxwell 19-9. Ryan Richters went 4-4 with two doubles and a triple and drove in seven. Bryson Hornbacher and Devin Slawnyk combined to strike out nine in the five-inning game. CHS will finish the regular season Monday at home against Louisville.
In a battle of former co-op teammates, Malcolm baseball defeated Raymond Central 8-2 April 23. The two teams co-oped as the Branched Oak Bucks when both were starting their baseball programs. Mason Wisnieski was 2-4 with four RBIs for Malcolm, and Carson Frank and Luke Schmidt each hit home runs. Maddox Meyer pitched all seven innings and struck out 12. The Clippers are next in action Saturday, April 27, at Falls City. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
Seward didn't have any trouble with Fairbury April 23, beating the visiting Jeffs 15-1. Brenden Ruth, Finn Hochstein, Braiden Herring, Kolton Loos and Conner Matzke had two hits each, and Hochstein and Herring each drove in four runs. Kyle Riley got the start and struck out six in four innings. Seward will next play at Waverly Thursday, April 25. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
