UBCF juniors win two on diamond

The Utica/Beaver Crossing/Friend junior Legion baseball team had just two games on the schedule last week and brought home a pair of wins.

The Badgers defeated Cornerstone Bank (Geneva) 9-1 June 7 and Hebron 11-6 June 8.

UBCF opened the game with two runs in the first against Geneva. After the Sharks cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning, the Badgers scored seven unanswered runs to pull away.

Devin Slawnyk and Grant Cast had two hits each with Slawnyk hitting a home run. Slawnyk and Bryson Hornbacher drove in two runs apiece. Mason Vossler pitched all six innings for UBCF and struck out three.

The next night at Hebron, UBCF pounded 11 hits, including doubles by Cast and Jake Leif. Vossler and Leif drove in two runs each, and Jordan Lawver and Leif had two hits.

The juniors (4-3) were to host Cornerstone Bank June 12 and host Hebron June 13. The team’s next scheduled game is Thursday, June 22, at Silver Creek.
