The Seward track and field teams finished April 20’ Yowell Invitational in the runner-up positions in both the boys’ and girls’ team standings.

Coach Jeff Hass said the meet was a “small preview of our district meet.”

Seward throwers had a good day at York. Lovely Hibbert won both the shot put and the discus with throws of 38-4.5 and 125-6, respectively.

Madison Green placed second in the discus (108-1) and fifth in the shot put (36-2.75) for the Jays, and Addy Heaston picked up fifth in the discus (96-2), as well.

Kolten Green won the discus with a throw of 150-2.

“Kolten Green finally hit a 150 foot throw that he was looking for,” Hass said.

Grace Brees finished the day with four gold medals. The freshman sprinter won the 100-meter dash in 12.63 seconds and the 200 in 26.56 seconds.

She joined Lauren Frihauf, Coral Collins and Kelsey Miller on the first-place 4x100-meter relay team in 50.53 seconds.

Brees, Frihauf, Emma Frihauf and Miller joined forces for the 4x400-meter relay, winning in 4:17.61.

Miller added two more individual gold medals, as well, taking first in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.47 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 46.86 seconds.

In the boys’ competition, Kayson Salyer brought home top honors in the triple jump at 41-8.25. Ed Knott won the high jump at 6-2 and had nice attempts at 6-5, Hass said. He was also second in the pole vault at 12-8.

Freshman Jackson Einspahr improved his time in the 800-meter run and held off Josiah Quinones of Beatrice to win in 1:58.78.

That “is really good for a freshman,” Hass said.

He said Tresten Hass showed improvement in the 110-meter hurdles, and Nathan Weber set another PR in the 200-meter dash at 23.51 seconds.

“We are really hoping to get Jase Ramirez and Devon Perry back to form after they both sustained hamstring injuries,” Coach Hass said

Seward’s next competition is Thursday, April 25, at Blair. Events start at 10 a.m. This is a time change from the original schedule.
