CHS girls win home invite

April 16 was “a decent day for a meet,” Centennial Coach Rob Johansen said.

The Broncos hosted their home invitational with a little light rain during the field events and a mixture of sun, clouds and wind through the rest of the day. CHS’s girls’ team was the meet champion with 125 points and scored in almost every event, Johansen said.

Catelynn Bargen added three feet to her previous best distance to win the shot put with a toss of 34-11.

Grace Schernikau also ran her all-time best in the 3,200-meter run, 12:39.01, to win the race.

Pole vaulters Kate Luebbe and Meg Hoffschneider both set personal bests at 8-6 and finished second and third, respectively.

Savannah Horne continued her dominance in the sprints, winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 12.53 and 27.37 seconds, respectively.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Cora Payne, Ella Wambold, Karley Naber and Marley Olson won in  11:04.87.

In the boys’ competition, Camden Winkelman placed in all four of his events, winning the pole vault at 12-0 and the 400-meter dash in 54.47 seconds.

Matthew Hoops won the 3,200 for the first time in his career with a time of 11:47.24.

The Broncos were next in action April 22 at Sutton for a quad and then head back to Sutton Saturday, April 27, for the Southern Nebraska Conference meet. Events start at 10 a.m.
