A request for a conditional use permit to build a 255-foot wireless communication tower a mile northwest of Staplehurst in Township 12 was denied by the Seward County Planning Commission after the applicant was asked to consider existing towers instead.
The after-school world at Seward Memorial Library looks a little different this year.
The traditional after-school programs have morphed into Library Leagues, a new version of them. Librarian Joe Starkey said the new version is designed to help young people connect and work together toward common goals. The leagues connect students with others who have similar interests in a safe space.
Michaela Conway and Angela Eberspacher, candidates for the State Board of Education District 5 seat, and candidates for the Seward School Board will be featured at a forum Tuesday, Sept. 29. The event, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Seward County, will start at 7 p.m. at the Seward Civic Center.
The September birthday meal at the Milford Senior Center will be Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11:45 a.m. Make a reservation by Friday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. At 12:45 p.m., there will be a presentation by Deb White about the Spirit of Nebraska.
The Utica Senior Center will host Bingo the last Wednesday of the month at 12:30 p.m. There is no cost. Call the day before for counting.

In Class C, Macie Carter of Milford was third in 19:45.5. Yoan Montero led the Milford boys in 18:36.5 and 46th place. Peyton Jones paced the Malcolm boys with an 86th place finish in 19:19.3.
In Class D, Stella Steele of Centennial was the meet champion in 20:12.8, leading the Bronco girls to a runner-up finish. Carter Fritz of Centennial was sixth in the boys race at 17:05.7.
