Next time capsule focuses on families

Before Trish Johnson and her crew opened the door on The World’s Largest Time Capsule her father, Harold “Budd” Davisson, had sealed up in 1975, people were asking one question.

Will there be another time capsule for the future?

Favorite local business competition goes live in Seward County

Seward County residents are being encouraged to show their support for local by nominating their favorite local business for the honor of being the USA’s Favorite Local Business for 2026. More about this is in the Sept. 30 SCI.

TODAY - Free movie

The Seward Memorial Libray will host a free movie Thursday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m., a 2026 biographical film. Admission is free, and all are welcome. Feel free to bring snacks and a drink.Visit sewardlibrary.org for more information.

TODAY - Line dancing

Instructor Jacki Mason will guide participants through fun, high-energy steps every Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. through Oct. 29 at the Seward Memorial Library. No partner or registration needed. All ages 10 and up are welcome.

TODAY & TOMORROW - Card games

The Utica Senior Center will host card games every Wednesday and Friday from 9 – 11 a.m. and 1:30 – 4 p.m. and every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 – 11 a.m.

TOMORROW - Chair yoga

Chair yoga will be offered Wednesdays and Fridays at 12:10 p.m. at the Utica Senior Center. There is no class the third Wednesday of the month.

Funeral services

HICKS, Georgia

Visitation for Georgis Hicks will be today, Oct. 1, from 3-5 p.m. at Volzke Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather from 6-7 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, followed by committal at the Seward Cemetery.

PETERS, Kathleen

Visitation for Kathleen Peters will be today, Oct. 1, from 1-8:30 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6:30-8 p.m. The memorial service will be Friday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Inurnment will be at the Tamora Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

Sports

The cross country meet scheduled at Branched Oak Lake this morning was canceled because of the rain. The David City Aquinas meet in David City today has also been canceled.

Due to thunderstorms forecast in the area on Wednesday, Concordia University and College of Saint Mary moved their women's soccer game to Thursday, Oct. 1. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. from Bulldog Stadium.
