Georgia Lee (Britton) Hicks was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Edgar Earl and Olive Ruth (Baumgardner) Britton. She passed away Sept. 30, 2026, in Seward, at the age of 91.
Georgia grew up in Elkhorn and attended Duchesne Academy before earning her degree from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1957, where she studied Education, History, and English. She went on to teach school before becoming a homemaker and devoting herself to her family.
On Aug. 16, 1958, Georgia was united in marriage to John Ramsay Hicks. Together, they built a life that took them to Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, and West Des Moines before settling in Seward in 1980.
Georgia's Catholic faith was at the center of her life. She attended Mass daily, prayed the rosary each day, and generously shared her faith with others through teaching CCD and RCIA. Her faith was not simply something she practiced, but something she lived and shared throughout her life.
Georgia was also a woman who found great joy in the simple pleasures of everyday life. She read constantly and loved a good game of Dominoes, Bridge and King's Corner. She was a devoted Husker volleyball fan, enjoyed cooking, and had a particular love for dessert – especially Stauffer's pie, which held a special place in her heart. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family and friends.
Georgia had a quick wit, a strong personality, and an unmistakable Irish spirit. She was fiercely supportive of the people she loved and had a way of making her opinions known. Those who knew her best will remember her humor, her strength, her generosity, and the love she gave so freely.
Her greatest joy was her family. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will carry with them the many lessons, stories, traditions, and memories she gave them throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Earl and Olive Ruth Britton; parents-in-law, Raymond and Elizabeth Hicks; husband, John Hicks; sister, Dorothy Lynch; brother-in-law, Francis Lynch; and son, John Britton Hicks.
Those who will carry Georgia's memory forward include her children, Ann (Richard) Bohaty, Michael Hicks, and Georgia (Billy) Anderson; grandchildren, Brittany Bohaty, John (Amzie) Bohaty, and Bridget Anderson; great-grandchildren, Louis and Willamina Bohaty; and many other relatives and friends who were blessed to know and love her.
