Seward seniors add two wins to season

The Seward ZKE Storage senior Legion baseball team added two wins to its season tally last week.

Seward defeated Crete Stop N Shop 11-1 June 6, lost to Wahoo State Bank 9-5 June 7 and shut out Stromsburg-Osceola-Shelby 3-0 June 11.

Seward led 1-0 after the third inning against Crete and then scored three in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the sixth to pull away. Carl Taylor was 3-3 with a triple and five RBIs, and Cam Olson was 2-3.

Collin Nagel pitched all six innings for Seward and struck out 10.

The next night, Seward scored three runs in the first and didn’t score again until the seventh against Wahoo. Reggie Sukup was 2-4 with a double. Kolton Loos took the loss, pitching five innings and striking out five but allowing five runs.

Although Seward recorded just three hits against SOS June 11, it scored three runs and shut out the SOS offense. Olson was 2-3 with a double and scored twice.

Carter Ernesti pitched all seven innings and struck out 11.

Seward got on the board first. With one out, Olson doubled and advanced to third on a single by Ryley Hain. He scored on a ground out by Carter Ernesti.

Seward added two more in the bottom of the sixth. Olson led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on an error that put Hain at first. Olson scored on a sacrifice fly to right, and Hain scored on a passed ball.

Seward (7-6) was scheduled to host Waverly June 13 and then play in the Battle of Omaha starting Thursday, June 15. The schedule was not available at press time.
