The Malcolm volleyball team added two wins to its tally last week, beating Nebraska City 25-8, 25-7, 25-14 Oct. 12 and Platteview 25-14, 25-20, 25-22 Oct. 15.
Coach Amber Dolliver said the team was able to see a lot of athletes get playing time in the win over Nebraska City.
“We continue to see growth with our entire team,” she said.
The Clippers hit .609 against the Pioneers, led by Laurel Johnson’s perfect night (22-22) with 13 kills. Malcolm served 13 aces with Morgan Wondercheck leading the way with four. Alli Blair delivered 26 assists, and Maya Wondercheck picked up nine digs.
The match against Platteview was a rematch of the Trailblazer Conference championship that the Trojans won. This time, Malcolm came out on top.
“Our girls were disappointed with our loss in the Trailblazer Conference finals so they were ready and excited to play them again,” Dolliver said. “We came out serving aggressively and passing well.”
She was happy with how both Payton Dolliver and Maya Wondercheck played against PHS.
“Payton took over the match. She passed well and was able to put the ball away. She controlled the game with power but also placement. She also did a great job shutting down their big hitters and had four blocks,” Coach Dolliver said.
Payton finished the match with 19 kills on 32 attempts and was 8-9 at the service line.
Maya Wondercheck recorded 23 digs at libero.
“She is a phenomenal passer but we’re starting to see her read more hitters and put herself in a good position to dig the ball,” Coach Dolliver said. “She wanted any ball that came close to her and her confidence continues to grow each game.
“Payton and Maya were difference makers for us against Platteview.”
Blair finished the match with 20 set assists, as well.
Malcolm (21-4) was to play at Ralston Oct. 20 and travel to Crete Thursday, Oct. 22, for the last match of the regular season.
Subdistricts start Monday, Oct. 26. Pairings and seedings are to be announced Oct. 22.
