The Crete Nestle Purina Juniors’ baseball team played two games on the week, losing both with a 12-3 loss to Seward on June 6, and a 5-4 loss to ETC on June 7.

Seward jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, and the Cardinals were never able to recover.

After trailing 12-1, Crete’s Ethan Placzek drove in Alex Eltze and Triston Lenhoff drove in Nick Wendt in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn’t enough as the game was called after six innings.

The Cardinals committed 11 errors in the game.

Crete then battled with ETC and couldn’t come away with the win despite a close game the whole way.

After Crete scored one run in the first, ETC scored three in the top of the second inning, Crete scored two more runs courtesy of Payton Steuer and Placzek to tie the game three all.

After four scoreless innings, ETC finally scored a run in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 5-3 lead. In the bottom of the seventh and with the game on the line, Nick Wendt drove in Zack Connell, but Westin DeLong was thrown out at third.

Patton Svitak was the lone pitcher for the day, striking out three.

Crete (2-6) was scheduled to host Auburn on June 12, travel to Hickman on June 13 and host Malcolm for two on Sunday, June 18.
