Jays third at York

The Seward track teams competed on a cold, windy April 22 in York and finished third in both the girls’ and boys’ standings.

Sophomore Kelsey Miller was named the Female Athlete of the Meet. She won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.42 seconds, the 300-meter hurdles in 47.66 seconds, the high jump at 5-0 and was on the first-place 4x100-meter relay team with Eden Schulz, Vicki Wang and Coral Collins.

Schulz also finished second in the 100-meter dash. Lovely Hibbert won second in the discus and third in the shot put, and Lauren Frihauf picked up third in the 400-meter dash.

Tessa Greisen finished third in the 3,200-meter run, and the 4x400 relay of Frihauf, Schulz, Mikayla Miller and Hailey Ball was third. Rounding out the bronze medal winners was Ava Krahulik in the long jump.

Kalen Knott topped the pole vault for the SHS boys, clearing the bar at 14-6 for Seward’s only gold medals. He also placed third in the triple jump.

Jase Ramirez had a good day with a second-place finish in the long jump and third place in the 200-meter dash.

All three relay teams won bronze medals –  the 4x100 team of Tresten Hass, AJ Frazey, Caden Brooks and Micah Hackbart; the 4x400 team of Frazey, Eli Hiser, Cole Luebbe and Easton Else; and the 4x800 team of Colin Standifer, Howe, Micah Royuk and Hiser.

Edison Knott earned third in the high jump at 6-0, and Larson Goldsmith was fourth with a personal-best height of 5-10.

The Bluejays are back in action Thursday, April 27, at Blair. The Central Conference meet is set for Tuesay, May 2, at Schuyler.
