Helen Joan Schluckebier, 90, passed away Dec. 20, 2025. She was born July 8, 1935, in Beaver Crossing to Melvin and Nina (Rediger) Burkey.
Helen was a very strong, loving, and incredible woman. She managed Chances R restaurant for several years and was the owner and operator of Wright Jewelry in York. One of her favorite hobbies was playing cards, especially bridge. Helen was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, David (Pam) Wright; daughters, Deanne (Tom) Damkroger and Denise (Pete) Crane; grandchildren, Emily, Audrey, Breann, Michelle, Ashley, Jonathan, Stefanie, Sarah, Steven, and Daniel; along with 27 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Schluckebier; brothers, Lee, Walter, and Doyle Burkey; and sister, Grace Milton.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Roper and Sons South Chapel (3950 Hohensee Dr., Lincoln, NE 68516). A viewing will take place one-hour prior beginning at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Mound Prairie Cemetery in Goehner. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Goehner Cemetery Association or St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
