Summer Storytime: Children ages three to six who have not yet attended kindergarten are invited to enjoy reading, singing and silliness at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, in the Seward Memorial Library’s main level conference room. This morning’s Storytime will feature Seward Mayor Josh Eickmeier.

June 8

Can Caravan Food Drive: The KOLN KGIN TV Can Caravan Food Drive will be in Seward at Pac ‘N’ Save on Thursday, June 8, to collect food for distribution at the Seward United Methodist Church FoodNet, Blue Valley Community Action, St. John’s Christ Cupboard and St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church pantries. Local businesses, churches and groups are encouraged to collect food for the drive the next four weeks and bring the donations to the collection tent on June 8. The goal set for Seward is 1,000 pounds. For more information, contact Clark Kolterman at clark.kolterman@sewardschools.org.

Big Truck Program: People attending the program Thursday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at the Seward Memorial Library will be able to walk around big trucks and learn about the equipment that serves the city and local businesses. AKRS, City of Seward, Gerhold Concrete, Midwest Towing, Seward Motor Freight and Trash Panda will have equipment on display.

County Republicans hold monthly meetings: The Seward County Nebraska Republicans invite any registered Republicans to attend monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Meeting locations may vary. Each month, meeting information and location will be posted on the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SewardNEGOP.

Invitation to meet at the Gathering Table: Make plans to meet at The Gathering Table (Milford Mennonite Fellowship Hall at 920 F St). The table is set on the second Thursday of each month for this complementary meal. Come anytime between 5:30 and 7 p.m.

BRAN celebration: With the Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) participants coming to Seward, there will be a celebration with games on the courthouse lawn from 4 - 6 p.m. and a street dance with a beer garden featuring Wonder Rising from 6 - 9 p.m.

June 10

AA and Al-Anon picnic: A District 32 AA and Al-Anon picnic – to celebrate the 88th anniversary of AA – will be Saturday, June 10, at the Kiddie Korral Park in Centennial Park in Seward. People may gather at 11 a.m. with a meal to follow at noon. Participants can contribute a main dish or side dish or dessert. They should also bring their own lawn chairs. District 32 will provide bottled water, paper plates and utensils.

Summer Music series: Local musician Jim Davis will kick off the Fifth Street Summer Music Series with a concert from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at the Seward Bandshell. Food trucks, kids activities and more will be part of this free event, hosted by the Seward Arts Council. The series continues with a different artist the second Saturday of each month through September.

Grief support group meets: Tabitha hosts a grief support group the second Tuesday of every month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Seward. To register, call Tabitha at (402) 362-7739.

Toddler Time: A program for children three and under with a caregiver present, Toddler Time will run for the next three weeks, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Seward Memorial Library. It will last about 45 minutes in the lower-level conference center. No registration is required.

Annual meeting: The Milford Friends of the Senior Center will conduct its annual meeting Wednesday, June 14, at 12:30 p.m. at the Milford Senior Center.

June 15

Family program: The Om Shanti Family Yoga Program will be Thursday, June 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Seward Memorial Library to learn how to exercise, reduce stress and have fun with your family all at the same time.  The whole family is invited to learn this ancient form of fitness.

Car club meets monthly: The Seward Good Life Car Club will have a meeting Saturday, June 17, in conjunction with participating with the York Area Cruisers at its first show. Participants will gather at the Pac ‘N’ Save parking lot before 10 a.m. and then cruise to the York Car Show at Harrison Park at 10 a.m. Registration is $15.

June 18

VFW Post breakfast Buffet: The Seward VFW Post will offer a breakfast buffet, serving from 8 to 11 a.m. Donations help support all of the groups’ projects. The public is welcome.

June 20

Alzheimer’s group to meet: The local Alzheimer’s Care Givers Support Group will meet at Kinship Pointe the third Tuesday of every month. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. If you are interested in attending, contact Rose or Terri at (402) 643-6500.

June 23

Fridays For You: “Healthy living for your brain and body” will be presented by Terry Glover of the Nebraska Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association on Friday, June 23, at noon on the third level of Memorial Hospital. A light lunch will be provided. RSVP required by Friday, June 16, at (402) 646-4707 or email shana.glover@mhcs.us.

Garden tour: The Red, White and Blue Garden tour, hosted by Liberty House B&B and Antiques, will be Saturday, June 24, from 9:30 to 3 p.m. The event will feature tours of five gardens in Seward County. Stop at Liberty House for tickets at 441 N. Fifth St. in Seward or call (402) 643-2555. Tickets are $15 each.

Authors and artists event: Nebraska artists and authors will have displays on the Seward County Courthouse lawn Saturday, June 24, from 2 – 4 p.m., hosted by Chapters Books & Gifts and the Red Path Gallery. The event is open to the public.

Ongoing

Weekly concert/rehearsal: The Seward Municipal Band’s weekly concerts are Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the Seward Bandshell. In case of rain, concerts will be in the Civic Center. Rehearsals are every Thursday from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Seward Middle School. Use the main entry on east side of the Middle School. Instrumentalists who have completed the eighth grade or have three years of experience may join at any time during the season. Call Pat Herrold at (402) 641-5457 with any questions.

Farmer’s markets: The Seward Farmer’s Market will be every Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. - noon on the courthouse square in Seward through October.

G.I. Cup of Joe: A veterans coffee will be every Wednesday from  7:30 – 9:30-ish at the Spare Time Lounge in Seward.

Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon meetings: Alcoholics Anonymous groups will meet at the following times: Mondays at noon at the Civic Center in Seward; Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Seward; Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Center; Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Bellwood Mennonite Church in Milford; Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Center; Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Center; and Sundays at 9 a.m. at the Civic Center and 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Seward. Al-Anon meetings are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Bellwood Mennonite Church in Milford and at 7:30 p.m. Fridays at the Civic Center in Seward.

Coffee and fellowship: Come for coffee and fellowship Monday through Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Milford Senior Center. Coffee, tea, pastries and other treats are served.

Lunch served at Milford Senior Center: Lunch is served Monday through Friday at noon at the Milford Senior Center. Reservations must be made one day in advance by calling or leaving a message at (402) 761-3367. Meals for seniors ages 60 and older have a suggested contribution of $6 for regularly scheduled meals. Meals for guests under age 60 are $7. All are welcome.

Yoga classes: Three different yoga classes are offered weekly at the Milford Senior Center, led by Kelly Haney. Offerings include: Adapted Yoga on Mondays at 9 a.m.; Assisted Yoga on Wednesdays at 9 a.m.; and Next Level Yoga on Fridays at 9 a.m.

TOPS meets weekly: TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets weekly on Thursdays at the Seward Civic Center. TOPS is a weight management support group. Weigh-in begins at 11:15 a.m. and the meetings are from noon to 12:30 p.m. The initial meeting is free.
