Kick-off celebration: The annual Seward Fourth of July Kick-Off Celebration will be Wednesday, May 31, at the Nebraska National Guard Museum at 7 p.m. The Seward County Community Service Award and Miss Independence and Mr. Firecracker and runners-up will be announced. May 31 – June 1

Babysitting clinic: Seward County Extension will offer a Building Better Babysitters Clinic at its office in Seward from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, and Thursday, June 1, with an optional half day on Friday, June 2. The program is offered to youth between the ages of 11 – 18 to learn basic care and activities, among other things, for children under their care. Cost is $30. The clinic is open to all youth who meet the age requirements, not just 4-H enrolled youth. For more information, contact Emily Manning at (402) 643-2981.

June 3

Run to remember the fallen: The eighth annual Run to St. Lo Memorial 5K and One Mile Run/Walk will be Saturday, June 3, starting and finishing at the Nebraska National Guard Museum in Seward. Check-in starts at 6 a.m. and the race starts at 7 a.m. Online registration may be done at www.getmeregistered.com and enter Run to St. Lo.

June 5 – 9

Bible school: Vacation Bible School will be June 5 – 9 at St. John Lutheran School in Seward from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. for children entering kindergarten through the sixth grade. “A Walk With Jesus” is the theme. Can Caravan Food Drive: The KOLN KGIN TV Can Caravan Food Drive will be in Seward at Pac ‘N’ Save on Thursday, June 8, to collect food for distribution at the Seward United Methodist Church FoodNet, Blue Valley Community Action, St. John’s Christ Cupboard and St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church pantries. Local businesses, churches and groups are encouraged to collect food for the drive the next four weeks and bring the donations to the collection tent on June 8. The goal set for Seward is 1,000 pounds. For more information, contact Clark Kolterman at clark.kolterman@sewardschools.org.

June 9

BRAN celebration: Please join us in welcoming the Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) participants to Seward. We will be celebrating with games on the Courthouse lawn from 4-6 pm and a Street Dance with a beer garden featuring Wonder Rising from 6-9pm. Please come join us!

June 10

AA and Al-Anon picnic: A District 32 AA and Al-Anon picnic – to celebrate the 88th anniversary of AA – will be Saturday, June 10, at the Kiddie Korral Park in Centennial Park in Seward. People may gather at 11 a.m. with a meal to follow at noon. Participants can contribute a main dish or side dish or dessert. They should also bring their own lawn chairs. District 32 will provide bottled water, paper plates and utensils.

Annual meeting: The Milford Friends of the Senior Center will conduct its annual meeting Wednesday, June 14, at 12:30 p.m. at the Milford Senior Center.

Farmer’s markets: The Seward Farmer’s Market will be every Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. - noon on the courthouse square in Seward through October.

G.I. Cup of Joe: A veterans coffee will be every Wednesday from  7:30 – 9:30-ish at the Spare Time Lounge in Seward.

Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon meetings: Alcoholics Anonymous groups will meet at the following times: Mondays at noon at the Civic Center in Seward; Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Seward; Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Center; Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Bellwood Mennonite Church in Milford; Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Center; Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Center; and Sundays at 9 a.m. at the Civic Center and 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Seward. Al-Anon meetings are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Bellwood Mennonite Church in Milford and at 7:30 p.m. Fridays at the Civic Center in Seward.

 

Coffee and fellowship: Come for coffee and fellowship Monday through Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Milford Senior Center. Coffee, tea, pastries and other treats are served.

Lunch served at Milford Senior Center: Lunch is served Monday through Friday at noon at the Milford Senior Center. Reservations must be made one day in advance by calling or leaving a message at (402) 761-3367. Meals for seniors ages 60 and older have a suggested contribution of $6 for regularly scheduled meals. Meals for guests under age 60 are $7. All are welcome.

Yoga classes: Three different yoga classes are offered weekly at the Milford Senior Center, led by Kelly Haney. Offerings include: Adapted Yoga on Mondays at 9 a.m.; Assisted Yoga on Wednesdays at 9 a.m.; and Next Level Yoga on Fridays at 9 a.m.

TOPS meets weekly: TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets weekly on Thursdays at the Seward Civic Center. TOPS is a weight management support group. Weigh-in begins at 11:15 a.m. and the meetings are from noon to 12:30 p.m. The initial meeting is free.
