The Centennial girls’ wrestling team came out of the break with a solid showing at the Tekamah-Herman Invite Dec. 28 and then wrestled at Fillmore Central Jan. 3.

The Broncos had a great day at Tekamah-Herman, Coach Jake Prochaska said.

CHS finished with a champion and five other placers, earning fourth in the team standings.

“We wrestled way better than expected,” Prochaska said.

Kobie Kosek won gold at 105 pounds, going 3-0 with three pins on the day.

“She’s been right there every meet,” Prochaska said. “She’s wrestling really good and has been all year.”

He said her three losses on the season have been to good wrestlers.

Also placing were Calley Abell, third at 170, Laney Abell, third at 190, Jaclynn Prigge, fourth at 170, Corey Payne, fifth at 115, and Nya Fischer, fifth at 110.

All but one of the Broncos won at least one match.

The Fillmore Central tournament was a tougher one for Centennial, Prochaska said.

Laney Abell won gold at 190 pounds, going 4-0 with four pins. In one match, she trailed 7-0 and won by pin, Prochaska said.

“She’s been close multiple times. It was nice to finally get over the hump,” he said.

Calley Abell finished fourth at 170 and Kosek was sixth at 105.

Prochaska was pleased to see them ninth as team with only four wrestlers scoring. Everyone won at least one match.

Up next for the Broncos is the Norm Manstedt Invite in Columbus Thursday, Jan. 9. The tournament includes 58 teams in three divisions, Prochaska said.
