New vehicle featured at annual car show

The 40th annual car show at the Seward County Historical Society Museum will feature something new.

The museum recently accepted an aqua blue 1967 AMC Ambassador in pristine condition, SCHS Board President Dick Rhodes said.

It’s time to get creative and put your costumes together for the annual Seward Rotary Club Halloween Costume Contest.

The event will be Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. at the Seward Bandshell Park, 5th and Jackson Avenue (weather permitting). It will be one of the last official USA-250 events in the community, honoring the USA’s 250th anniversary/birthday. In case of bad weather, the contest will be in the Civic Center Auditorium.

TODAY - Card games

The Utica Senior Center will host card games every Wednesday and Friday from 9 – 11 a.m. and 1:30 – 4 p.m. and every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 – 11 a.m.

TODAY - Chair yoga

Chair yoga will be offered Wednesdays and Fridays at 12:10 p.m. at the Utica Senior Center. There is no class the third Wednesday of the month.

TOMORROW - Fall Makers Market

The Fall Makers Market will be Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 910 Dimery Avenue in Beaver Crossing. A variety of vendors will have crafts, vintage items, produce, decor and more.

TOMORROW - Reading Dragons

The Seward Memorial Library will host a  Reading Dragons event Saturday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. There will be a game of dragon bingo, with wild cards and mini games. Every child who attends will receive a limited-edition dragon card to add to their collection, plus plenty of chances to win prizes.

SUNDAY - Audition for show

Auditions for this year’s Christmas show, “The Man Who Wanted To Be Santa Claus,” will be Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Olde Glory Theatre. The play includes five men, five women and one girl between 8 and 10 years old. The show runs Dec. 9-13. Contact Christa Dunker at (402) 440-4226 for more information.

SUNDAY - SCHS Car Show

The 40th annual Classic Car Review will be Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Seward County Historical Society Museum in Goehner. Registration is open from 9 a.m. to noon, with the free show from noon to 4 p.m. Food and drinks will be available all day. All proceeds go to the museum operation fund. SUNDAY - Wicked Wine Run/Walk

Junto Winery will host the Heartfelt Wicked Wine Run/Walk Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1:30 p.m. The afternoon starts at 1 p.m. with food trucks and vendors through 4 p.m. The 5K run/walk starts at 1:30 p.m. followed at 2:30 p.m. by a stroll. Stan Mitchel will play from 2:30-4 p.m.

SUNDAY - Diversity presentation

A presentation, led by DeWayne Mayes and William Arfman, will explore racism in Nebraska on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Seward Memorial Library. This presentation will focus on lessons to be learned, differing viewpoints and opportunities for conversation.

HICKS, Georgia

The funeral service for Georgia Hicks will be Friday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, followed by committal at the Seward Cemetery.

PETERS, Kathleen

The memorial service for Kathleen Peters will be Friday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Inurnment will be at the Tamora Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

BEATTY, Connie

The funeral service for Connie Beattie will be Friday, Oct. 2, at 3 p.m. at The Depot in Seward. Family and friends will gather at The Depot from 4-7 p.m.

OSTERLUND, Dorothy

Visitation for Dorothy Osterlund will be Monday, Oct. 5, from 4-6 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. at the Seward Cemetery.
