Cheryl Lynn (Meyer) Clark, of Manhattan, Kansas, left the vessel of her mortal body on Feb. 14, 2025.
She was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and a graduate of Loveland High School in Colorado. She spent her final two years in Kansas after living 43 years as a proud Nebraskan. She lived in McCook for 19 years and worked at Cornbelt Chemical Company (now Van Diest Supply Company). She then lived in Seward for 24 years where she retired from Blue Valley Behavioral Health in 2017.
Cheryl was a dedicated worker intent on doing the best work possible. She had an exceptional memory throughout her life, including remembering the names of everyone’s pets throughout her life.
Cheryl loved her family, her coffee, and her pets – not always in that order. Without fail, she loved them all. She was also known to use colorful euphemisms such as, “that is water over the dam and under the bridge” and shared a new one in her final month in the hospital stating she looked “red-eyed and rowdy.”
One memorable trait is her hugs. Cheryl was a fan of giving hugs. Those were tight and full of emotion. The more excited she was to see someone, the harder one could expect the three mandatory hard back slaps with resounding thuds that were common with her hugs. You always remembered a good hug with Cheryl. There was never any doubt you had received one from her.
If you have a memory of Cheryl and it does not include her having a cup of coffee and/or a cigarette nearby, you knew a different Cheryl. Cheryl stated in her final days she did not regret smoking as many of her best memories were “jokin’ and smokin’” with those near and dear to her. Investments into coffee and tobacco would have been a good choice for her. In her last few weeks, she lamented about bad coffee and offered to buy premium beans to share with the staff and residents at hospice. A good cup of strong coffee was always one of her favorites.
Cheryl was a well-known lover of “critters.” She had many cats and dogs over the years. She often fed and befriended stray cats, possums, and raccoons. The lucky few of those stray cats won the lottery and were promoted to full pet status and shared housing with Cheryl. At times, given a preference between interacting with people or her pets, Cheryl may have picked the pets!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Rosa (Mohrlang) Meyer; a half-brother, Delmar Meyer; a brother, Jerrold Meyer; and twin sister, Sandra (Meyer) Blewitt.
She is survived by a brother, Ronald Meyer of Aurora, Colorado; daughter, Stephanie Binderup (Travis) of Kenesaw; son, Michael Clark (Jody) of Wamego, Kansas; four fantastic grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; several cousins; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved former stray cat, Spunky.
