Bronco golf opens season at David City

Centennial golf got its season started March 28 at David City at the Aquinas Invite and had a good day, Coach Cam Scholl said.

“It was good to get out,” he said. “The boys did well for the first meet of the year.”

Six Broncos were in the field on a day that started out chilly and ended up nice, he said.

Alex Hirschfeld placed fourth with a 79, which was one stroke better than last year’s score, Scholl said.

Sam Ehlers earned eighth with an 83.

The team, which included Jordan Wagner and Owen Naber, placed third. Both Wagner and Naber shot around 100, which Scholl said was good for their first varsity tournament.

Cyrus Songster and Zayde Murphy competed in the JV tournament.

“It was a really good day for us,” Scholl said. “We hope to continue the solid start.”

The Broncos are to play in a triangular at Friend April 2 and in the Friend Invitational Wednesday, April 3. Tee times start at 9:30 a.m.

Scholl said some golfers may be absent for other obligations but said the back-to-back competitions will be a good test.
