The 2023 season came to an end last week, but it wasn’t the ending the Seward volleyball team had hoped for, despite seeing its libero reach a milestone.
The Bluejays opened the Class B state tournament against Elkhorn North Nov. 1 and lost to the Wolves 25-12, 25-15, 25-14.
During the match, junior libero Abby Covalt reached 1,000 career digs, totaling 12 digs in the match.
EN was tall, athletic and had more talent than the Jays, Coach Tom Pallas said.
“I thought we competed well under the circumstances,” Pallas said, adding that the flu virus had swept through the team before the tournament. “They all wanted to play.”
He said Seward, which finished the season 26-8, played its best volleyball of the season over the final two weeks.
Against Elkhorn North, Kelsey Miller led the team with nine kills, and Jackie Eberspacher added seven.
Libby Kratochvil put up 19 assists and 13 digs.
Seward will graduate three seniors – Libby Kratochvil, Gabi Cepek and Emme Brauer.
