Badgers split junior/senior games at Wilber

The Utica/Beaver Crossing/Friend legion baseball teams had a lighter week this week – the juniors played two games and the seniors one.

The juniors went 1-1 in their games, losing to Twin River 10-8 June 22 and beating Wilber 19-8 June 23.

Twin River jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning, but UBCF came back to lead 8-7 after the fifth. TR put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth to escape with the win.

Jacob Weber and Jake Leif had two hits each for UBCF, and Leif drove in two runs. Bryson Hornbacher struck out five in 5.1 innings.

UBCF scored 11 runs in the fifth inning to pull away from Wilber June 23. The Badgers finished the game with nine hits, led by two doubles from Jordan Lawver. Hornbacher drove in five runs, and Lawver, Weber, Leif and Chase Paulsen had two hits each.

The Badgers (6-5) host Sutton Thursday, June 29, and SOS Friday, June 30, both at 5:30 p.m. The team is at SOS Sunday, July 2, at 2 p.m.

Districts start Friday, July 7.

The UBCF seniors got a good pitching performance from Keenan Kosek at Wilber June 23 but couldn’t get the bats going, falling 3-1. UBCF had two hits – singles by Lorenzo Vespignani and Cooper Girmus, who drove in Vespignani for the team’s only run.

The seniors (1-14) host Sutton Thursday, June 29, and SOS Friday, June 30, both at 8 p.m. The team is at Shelby Sunday, July 2, at 4:30 p.m.
