ell for the Seward girls’ basketball team but did not end as the Bluejays wanted.

The Jays opened with a 54-33 win over Crete Feb. 24, then beat York 45-36 Feb. 25. In the district final March 1, the Jays couldn’t stay with Norris, which got the win 52-30.

Coach Beth Bohuslavsky said Seward played pretty well against Crete, despite a sluggish start on offense. SHS was able to break down Crete’s 1-3-1 defense and go on scoring runs. In addition, the Jays were 7-21 from three, with Karlee Baack connecting on four. She finished with 18 points. Kelsey Miller notched a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The meeting with York was the third time this season, with York winning the first two.

“It was almost a similar game (to the last time), but everything was reversed,” Bohuslavsky said. “We got the bounces.”

Seward held York to seven offensive rebounds, which helped keep the Dukes in check.

“We were able to get the job done,” Bohuslavsky said.

Miller led the way with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Kennedy Limback added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Bohuslavsky said Miller played a great game and showed her leadership throughout. Limback did a good job using her athleticism to get past the defense, as well.

Seward hosted Norris March 1 in the district title game. Norris led 17-9 after the first quarter and extended its lead the rest of the game, holding SHS to single-digit scoring in each period.

“It was a good game. Norris was better,” Bohuslavsky said, crediting the Titan guards who hit double figures in scoring. “Our guard play has to be better. We didn’t handle the pressure well.”

In her final game as a Bluejay, Miller scored nine to lead the Jays. Limback finished with nine rebounds.

Seward will graduate four seniors – Miller, Limback, Mikayla Miller and Amara Siebert. Bohuslavsky said they will be remembered for their dedication, commitment and hard work.

“They led by example,” she said. “They showed how to be great teammates.”
