The Centennial football team followed up its homecoming win with a 50-20 win at Fairbury Sept. 18.
“It feels good to put a couple of wins together, but I can absolutely tell you no one on our team is satisfied,” Coach Riley Ostendorf said.
He said the defensive line dominated the line of scrimmage and made it difficult for Fairbury to find its playmakers.
"A huge play happened late in the second quarter where Lane Johnson and Evan Crawford put pressure on the QB leading to a safety," Ostendorf said. "On the ensuing safety punt, Tripp Hawley made one cut and took it to the house. That 10-0 run set the tone for halftime."
While Fairbury had some good athletes, Ostendorf said the Broncos did a great job tackling and rallying all eight players to the ball.
"We played with energy and effort which can take any team a long way," he said.
On offense, the Broncos had contributions form a lot of players.
"We are starting to really play well with technique and physicality on the offensive line," Ostendorf said. "We are improving every day and it is clear to see."
For Centennial, the Naber boys had big nights. Kellen gained 77 yards on 16 carries and scored a touchdown, and Owen caught three passes for 81 yards and two scores. Tripp Hawley also carried seven times for 34 yards and two touchdowns.
Parker Perry completed eight passes for 114 yards.
On defense, Lane Johnson finished with four solo tackles and three assists.
Ostendorf said the team was ready to get back to work soon after the win.
"Even after getting home around 11, the fellas were trying to beat me to the school on Saturday because they were locked in and ready to get back to it," he said.
The Broncos (2-2) will host Elmwood-Murdock (3-1) Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. The Knights are coming off their first loss of the season, a 58-24 setback against Johnson-Brock.
“It is a great opportunity to test ourselves and see what we are really made of,” Ostendorf said.
