With the departure of the Christmas light display at Centennial Park in Seward, Karen and Tony Sabatka wanted to do something more for the people who drive around Seward to look at the Christmas lights.
They usually have a big display at the home at 212 Hickory, but this year will add more. A train will be filled with treat bags and gifts for children, and hot cocoa and cookies will be available in the garage for all visitors.
“We do lights anyway. We wanted to incorporate more into it,” Karen Sabatka said.
The special stop will be Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6-8:30 p.m.
“We wanted to try something different, not just drive-bys,” Sabatka said. “We have homemade characters. We’ve put a lot of effort in.”
Sabatka and fellow day care provider Mary Reitz are working together on this project. Sabatka said her day care children have added their ideas, especially to the train.
In addition to the lights and creatures filling the Sabatkas’ yard, Santa and Mrs. Claus may make an appearance, along with Buddy the Elf, the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who.
A mailbox is also on site for children who want to mail their letters to Santa.
If anyone wants to help, they can call or message Reitz on Facebook or call Sabatka at (402) 643-3577. Sabatka said any donations will go to the gifts and treat bags.
“We do it for the kids, of course,” Sabatka said. “We hope people stop by.”
She asked that people not park in front of the displays and to watch for traffic if they’re walking toward the house.
