The Wilber-Clatonia Duals came down to the final match. Milford faced the host Wolverines in the last dual of the night, both teams 4-0 entering the contest.

Going into the final match, Wilber-Clatonia led 31-30. Jax Hansen took the mat for the Eagles against WC’s Ryan Marsh. Hansen won the match 16-6, a major decision, to give the Eagles four team points and the team title.

“I’m proud of my guys for standing by each other in the face of adversity. Nobody hit the panic button, and they all did their jobs. It took the entire team to finish on top,” Coach Jonah Peterson said.

Milford beat Norfolk Catholic 54-19, Bishop Neumann 50-28, Arapahoe 64-6 and Johnson County Central 58-22.

Hansen, Cooper Rea, Cory Langenberg and Quinn Zegers were each 5-0 on the night.

The next day, Milford headed west to Central City for a tournament and finished seventh overall, with Rea the day’s only champion, winning at 144 pounds. He was 4-0 with four pins and stands at 29-3 on the season.

In addition to Rea, Garrett Schoen was second at 285, Kellan Lovitt placed third at 120, Langenberg was fourth at 165 and Hansen ended sixth at 138.

“The Central City Invite on Saturday was exactly what we thought it would be - challenging both physically and mentally,” Peterson said.

The field included some of the top teams in Class C and top wrestlers from Classes B and D, he said.

“We didn’t finish where we would’ve liked; however, there is a lot we can learn from it,” he said.

Despite being short-handed, the Eagles scored over 100 team points, brought home five medals and finished in the top half.

“Our line-up was short-handed all weekend due to a couple of injuries, making these wins even more impressive,” Peterson said.

The Eagles were without senior Hunter Dickinson, who was able to wrestle in just one dual at Wilber-Clatonia because of an injury.

Up next for Milford is the Bill Foster Invite at Gibbon Saturday, Jan. 18.
