The Centennial girls’ basketball team faced a pair of tough opponents at the Malcolm holiday tournament and fell short in both games, losing to Malcolm 54-31 and to Northwest 50-29.
Coach Eric Kloke said the biggest problem for the Broncos against Malcolm was rebounding.
“Malcolm outrebounded us by 25,” he said. “Rebounding will be a point of emphasis.”
The other challenge was scoring. In the third quarter, CHS scored 18 and the offense looked good, the coach said. The other three quarters, CHS scored 7, 4 and 2.
Meg Hoffschneider scored 10 to lead CHS.
Against Northwest, Centennial played the best half it’s played this season and led 28-21 at halftime. Everything was clicking, and the team was handling the press, Kloke said.
The third quarter, Centennial came out flat and gave up 18 points.
Ella Wambold and Cheyenne Tonniges led the Broncos with 13 points each.
Up next for the Broncos (2-6) is Sutton Friday, Jan. 10, at home starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 11, Centennial will play at Raymond Central.
