The Centennial girls’ basketball team played its best game of the season Jan. 10, but it wasn’t enough to get past Sutton. The Fillies downed the Broncos 38-33.
“We did a good job taking care of the ball and were able to knock down shots,” Coach Eric Kloke said.
Sutton’s press bothered CHS in the second and third quarters, and the Broncos made some costly errors, he said.
“The effort was great. They work hard and work together,” he said. “We just weren’t on the right side of it.”
Marley Olson led Centennial with 12 points. Cheyenne Tonniges added nine points and seven rebounds.
The team was at Raymond Central Jan. 11, and the Mustangs held them in check, winning 57-25.
“We started off well, but the Raymond Central defense got to us. We could not handle their pressure,” Kloke said. “Their half-court defense was a nightmare for us.”
The Mustangs forced 32 Centennial turnovers in the game. Kloke said the team needs to get better at handling tight pressure.
Olson’s eight points were the team high.
The Broncos (3-8) defeated Shelby-Rising City 42-14 Jan. 14, will host Centura Friday, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m. and host Central City Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2:30 p.m.
