The Centennial track teams headed down the road to Milford April 11 and brought home two new personal best marks for one Bronco senior and another PR for another.

Cambria Saunders won the girls’ triple jump with a PR of 33-11.

“She has been struggling to be consistent on her approach and today did much better and put all three phases together to get that great jump,” Coach Rob Johansen said.

The CHS senior also set a personal best time in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing second in 52.93 seconds.

Savannah Horne swept the 100- and 200-meter dashes in times of 12.41 and 26.23 seconds. Johansen said she is closing in on her school record in the 100.

She also anchored the 4x100-meter relay team, bringing the Broncos from fourth to second. Team members are Saunders, Bree Nisly and Samara Ruether.

“I would have liked to see a split time on that relay,” Johansen said.

Grace Schernikau won gold in the 3,200-meter run in 13:11.28. The 4x800-meter relay team of Cora Payne, Karley Naber, Ella Wambold and Molly Prochaska finished second. Wambold was also second in the 1,600-meter run.

“The sick bug seems to be going around the girls team as two of them had to leave the meet early and a few others are fighting bad colds,” Johansen said.

The throws helped the boys’ team put points on the board, the coach said. All the throwers earned at least one medal on the day.

Xavier Ettwein finished third in the both the shot put and discus. Jayde Gumaer was second in the discus at 142-5 and fifth in the shot put. Paul Fehlhafer finished sixth in the shot put, and Trevor Fehlhafer was sixth in the discus.

Camden Winkelman added points in the 400-meter dash with his third-place finish and was fourth in the pole vault.

The Broncos hosted their home invitational April 18. The team is next in action Monday, April 24, in a quadrangular at Heartland.
