Programs to honor those who served

Veterans Day is Sunday, Nov. 11. Area schools and organizations are hosting programs in honor of local veterans. All programs are open to the public.

Thursday, Nov. 8

Malcolm Public Schools will host a veterans program at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8. If you are a veteran, the school would like to honor your service during this program. Call the elementary office at (402) 796-2151 to be added to the list.

St. John Lutheran School in Seward will hold its Veterans Day Revue at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, in the St. John Lutheran Church sanctuary.

Friday, Nov. 9

Centennial Public Schools will begin its Veterans Day observance with cookies and coffee for Legion and Legion Auxiliary members at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. Following the social, the school will hold its Veterans Day program from 10 to 11 a.m.

Sunday, Nov. 11

The Nebraska National Guard Museum will host “Faithful Piecemakers” and friends and family of Faith Lutheran Church to present Quilts of Valor at 1:30 p.m. on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, at the museum. Up to 11 veterans will receive quilts to honor them for their service.

The Seward County Historical Society will host a veterans reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, at its museum in Goehner.

Monday, Nov. 12

St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and School in Seward will hold its program at 8:10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, with mass and a program of patriotic songs performed by the students.

Seward Middle School will hold its Veterans Day program at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12. It will be followed by tea and cookies for veterans and their families.

Milford Junior/Senior High School will hold a program at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, in the high school auditorium. The community is invited to attend. George Matzen, a Milford resident, retired military serviceman and member of the Milford American Legion Post 171, will speak at the program.

Seward High School invites veterans to have lunch at the high school between noon and 1:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12. Veterans are asked to RSVP to (402) 643-2988. After lunch, the school will have its Veterans Day program at 1:30 p.m.

Seward Elementary School will hold its Veterans Day program at 2:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 in the gym. Beforehand, there will be coffee and cookies for everyone in the cafeteria starting at 1:45 p.m. During the program, students will sing songs, recite poems and show a video.
