William “Bill” Charles Obermier was born on the family farm on Feb. 19, 1938, to Walter and Anna (Finke) Obermier in Waco.

On May 7, 1966, William was united in marriage to Shirley Bartels at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Bill was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waco, where he served on various boards and committees. He was passionate about his faith and passing that tradition on to his children and grandchildren.  He was a man of few words and led by action. His humility and smile were only surpassed by his faith and love for his family.

Bill touched the lives of many with his quiet manner and readily big smile. He was a life-long farmer raising crops and livestock. His greatest joys were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoyed attending their activities and sporting events. He also liked to play cards and go for drives. William passed away Jan. 26, 2024, in Henderson, at the age of 85.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of Waco; his children, Cindy Obermier (Steve Joekel) of Omaha, Jeff (Danik) Obermier of Waco, Kim (Shane) Sallach of Callaway, and Missy (Shane) Hatcher of Kearney; grandchildren, McKenna (Keaton) Kucera, Brayden Obermier (Lauren Scholfield), Jessie and Joey Sallach, and Kaleigh, Kelsey and Kolby Hatcher; and great-grandchildren, Rowyn and Raegan Kucera. William was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Sydnee Ann Sallach; parents; six brothers; and four sisters.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waco with committal at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested in care of the Obermier family. Arrangements by Volzke Funeral Home.
