Commissioner races on May 14 county primary ballot

Two races for seats on the Seward County Board of Commissioners will be among the May 14 primary contests area voters will see on their ballots. The top of the ballot will, of course, feature mostly partisan races for president, senator, U.S. representative and University of Nebraska regents. March 1 was the deadline to file for candidacy with the Seward County Clerk and Commissioner of Elections Office. Incumbents had to file earlier.

CUNE to host Breakfast and Books

The Plum Creek Literacy Festival will host its eighth annual Breakfast and Books on Saturday, March 23. The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Janzow Campus Center - Cattle Conference Room. Learn more about Plum Creek Literacy Festival and register at cune.edu/plumcreek. Breakfast and Books is aimed toward teachers, librarians and book lovers of all ages. It consists of a breakfast buffet, book sales and keynote presentations, this year given by Daniel Kirk, Hyewon Yum and Robert and Lisa Papp. The authors will be available for book signing after the conclusion of the morning’s events and talks.

Jones Bank celebrates 20 years in Milford

Marking a significant milestone in the heart of Milford, Jones Bank is reflecting on two decades of serving the community. The bank held an open house on Feb. 29 – March 1 to celebrate. Miriam Stutzman, the branch manager for Jones Bank in Milford, is one of two current employees who has been with the Milford branch since its conception, and she said it is hard to believe it has already been 20 years since its opening. She said the time flew by, and she has loved meeting so many customers over the years and helping them with their financial needs. “I enjoy seeing the familiar faces of our customers each time they come in but also enjoy getting to know the new faces that come in,” she said. “It is always so good to hear when our customers say that they appreciate everything we do for them.
