Seward Memorial Library launches reading challenges for all ages

The Seward Memorial Library is inviting readers of all ages to spend their summer turning pages and earning rewards through its annual Summer Reading Challenges. This summer’s theme is “Unearth a Story.” Read more in the June 10 Independent.

State plans wider I-80 in Seward County 

The Nebraska Roads Department is making plans to widen 9.64 miles of Interstate 80 between the Pleasant Dale and Seward interchanges to six lanes, requiring temporary closures of five county roads that have bridges crossing over the interstate.

The Seward County Board of Commissioners on June 2 authorized Chair Misty Ahmic to sign an agreement with the state for the temporary closures of roads 182, 210, 224 266 and 294 as part of the project which requires bridge replacements.  Find out more in the June 10 SCI.

TODAY - Adventure Day Camp

The 4-H Junior Leaders will host a Nebraska Adventure day Camp Wednesday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at Harvest Hall on the Seward County Fairgrounds. The camp is open to children ages 5 to 9, and a fee will be charged. Explore science, agriculture, native species and fossils with crafts, snacks and other activities. TODAY - Baked potato fundraiser

The monthly baked potato fundraiser at the Milford Senior Center will be Wednesday, June 10, from 5 – 7 p.m.

TOMORROW - Safe Digging Adventure

The Seward Memorial Library on Thursday, June 11, at 1 p.m. will host a Safe Digging Adventure presentation that turns essential safety into a fun, subterranean expedition for the whole family. No registration is required.

TOMORROW - County Republicans meet

The Seward County Nebraska Republicans invite any registered Republicans to attend monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. (subject to change). Meeting locations may vary. Each month, meeting information and location will be posted on their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SewardNEGOP and their website at SewardGOP.org.

TOMORROW - Gathering Table

Make plans to meet at The Gathering Table (Milford Mennonite Fellowship Hall at 920 F St). The table is set on the second Thursday of each month for this complementary meal. Come anytime between 5:30 and 7 p.m.

TOMORROW - VFW auxiliary meeting

Seward VFW Auxiliary Post 4755 meets the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the VFW Club, 243 S. Ninth St., in Seward.

The Utica Lions Club is selling peaches, with early delivery mid-to-late July. Ten-pound boxes are $28 each. There are no pears.
