Construction project changes

Weather permitting, the south half of the US-34 and N-15 intersection will be closed for construction, starting Monday, April 15, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Eastbound and westbound traffic on US-34 will be shifted to the north side of the intersection and will be in a head to head configuration with lane delineation. N-15, south of US-34, will remain closed.
Northbound and southbound N-15 traffic will remain detoured using Izaak Walton Road, 294th Street and US-34 during this phase of construction.
These phases of construction are expected to be complete before July 1.

Wellness center receives $562k grant

Seward Wellness Center Executive Director Joel Brase announced April 2 that the wellness center was approved for a $562,000 grant from the Civic and Community Center Financing Fund, administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.

County board clears path for business growth near Highway 15, Van Dorn

Seward County Board of Commissioners approved a zoning change that will allow additional agricultural business development near Highway 15 between Van Dorn and Milford Road, west of Milford.

Baked potato fundraiser today

A potato bake will be Wednesday, April 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Milford Senior Center. Cost is a $7 minimum donation.

Woman’s club to meet

The GFWC Seward Womans Club monthly meeting will be today, April 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Seward Memorial Library in the lower level meeting room. The featured speaker will be former Nebraska Gov. Kay Orr, who will present on the topic “Volunteers are the Heart of the Community.” The meeting is open to women of the area. Broncos battle at Milford meet

The Centennial girls finished third and the boys were seventh at the Milford Invite April 9. Savannah Horne won the 100 and 200; Paul Fehlhafer won the shot put; Ella Wambold was second in the 1,600; the girls' 4x800 relay was second; and Camden Winkelman was second in the pole vault.

Milford hosts home track meet

The Milford boys finished third and the girls were fifth at the Milford Booster Invite April 9. Top finishers for the Eagles were Sarah Spahr, first in the high jump; Ellison Piening, second in the triple jump; Sarah Reynolds, second in the discus; Avery Carter, first in the 1,600 and second in the 800; Isaac Roth, first in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles; and the boys' 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams first.

SHS baseball wins on road

The Seward baseball team scored four runs in both the second and fourth innings to pull away from Adams Central for a 10-5 win April 9. Reggie Sukup, Bostyn Happ and Kyle Peery had two hits each, with Sukup hitting a triple. Conner Sveeggen struck out seven in 5.1 innings.

CM falls to CCC

The Crete-Milford baseball team allowed five runs in the fourth inning of a 12-2 loss to Central City/Centura April 9. Brooks Piening went 2-3 for CM.

Clippers win conference opener

Maddox Meyer was almost perfect for the Malcolm baseball team April 9 in a 12-0 win over Ralston to open the Trailblazer Conference tournament. Meyer pitched five innings, struck out nine, walked none and faced 16 batters - one over the minimum. Ralston's only baserunner reached in the fourth inning when he was hit by a pitch. Luke Schmidt was 2-4 with two home runs and drove in four for the Clippers.
