Wanda Joyce (Underwood) Birkett was born in Hutchinson, Kan., on Oct. 13, 1954, to William and Lillian (Sells) Underwood and passed away at her home in Garland on April 2, 2023, at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 18 days.

Wanda grew up living in various places around the world, including Kansas, Hawaii, Japan and Guam due to her dad being in the military. Shortly after Wanda graduated from George Washington High School in Guam, the family moved back to Lincoln. Wanda worked at Gooch Milling Company for several years, and it was there that she met her husband, Robert Birkett, in 1982. The couple moved to Garland in 1989 and later got married on May 11, 2010. Throughout the years, Wanda was also employed at Merle's Garden Center, Outlaw Steakhouse, and retired from Walmart in August 2020. In her free time, Wanda enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning and fishing. She had a love for all animals, but especially her two dogs, Sandy and Lucky. She also enjoyed dancing, puzzles and Christmas festivities.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents; mom #2, Doris Underwood; mother-in-law, Marjorie Eileen Birkett; infant grandchildren, Hope and Isaac Inness.

Survivors cherishing her memory include her husband, Robert “Bob” Birkett; daughter, Lisa (Dave) Doeden; step-daughters, Jenny (Chris) Inness, and Angie Birkett; grandchildren, Brianna Noble, Bethany Wagner, Savannah Wagner, Malikai Chulata, Haley Inness, Isabel Inness and Jett Birkett; sister, Pat Underwood; father-in-law, Bob Birkett, Sr.; brothers-in-law, Larry Birkett, Jim Birkett, Mike Birkett; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service was April 10 at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home. Arrangements by Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home.
