VILLAGE OF STAPLEHURST The following is a condensed form of the minutes. A complete copy is on file and available for inspection upon request at the village office. The Village of Staplehurst Board of Trustees met on July 28, 2026, with Chair Wilken and Trustees Stava, Benedict, and Novotny present at roll call. The Board approved village claims totaling $23,509.76 for the period of July 1, 2026 through July 31, 2026; motion by Stava, seconded by Benedict, Wilken and Novotny in favor. Sheriff Department highlights: June report reviewed with no action needed. Fire Department highlights: July claims totaling $173.75 for fuel approved; motion by Stava, seconded by Novotny, Wilken and Benedict in favor. Fire Department reported 4 rescue calls and 1 mutual aid call for Bee. Amendments have been made to the fire contract approved last month; a meeting was held at the Civic Center on July 30th to review, with Chair Wilken in attendance. Building Permit highlights: Request by Tyler Strong for demolition of the abandoned home at 400 A Street approved, along with removal of the sidewalk on the west side of North 3rd Street, the driveway, and the culvert; motion by Novotny, seconded by Benedict, Wilken and Stava in favor. Maintenance highlights: Water leak at 250 N. 4th Street addressed with water shut off until repairs are completed. The village is required by the state to locate all lead piping; this represents a significant cost and the village is pursuing state funding assistance. One additional bid for the alley drainage project behind the post office is still pending from Hartman and Golden Rule. Clerk highlights: Ordinance No. 2026-01, Roosters Prohibited, was presented and approved by the Board, adding Section 2-308 to the Village Code prohibiting the keeping of roosters within corporate limits; motion by Benedict, seconded by Stava, all in favor. The ordinance will be published in pamphlet form, posted at the village office, and made available to residents upon request beginning August 1, 2026, with the ordinance becoming effective fifteen days thereafter.
