VILLAGE OF STAPLEHURST The following is a condensed form of the minutes. A complete copy is on file and available for inspection upon request at the village office. The Village of Staplehurst Board of Trustees met on May 26, 2026, with Chairperson Frank and Trustees Wilken, Benedict, and Novotny present at roll call. Trustee Stava was absent. The Board approved village claims totaling $17,661.55 for the period of April 29, 2026 through May 26, 2026. Sheriff Department highlights: April report reviewed with no action needed. Fire Department highlights: Reported 2 rescue calls and 2 fire calls; April and May claims totaling $950.31 approved; request approved to close 3rd Street and A Street on October 31st from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the Fun Run; new fire contract with the Rural District approved and signed. Building Permit highlights: Building permit approved for construction of a small storage shed at 700 South Street; Trustee Benedict voted nay. Park Fence highlights: Board approved completing the Operation Round Up Grant for park fencing; Paul Duer will provide the clerk with all necessary grant information. Maintenance highlights: Discussion continued regarding a new maintenance pickup; board to present up to three pricing options at the June meeting; alley estimate still pending, also carried to June; laptop replacement authorized up to $1,500.00 if needed; parking lines to be painted in June with Fire Department assistance cleaning streets; notifications to be sent to residents when dates are set. Bar/Keno highlights: Request approved to close the block of A Street between 3rd and 4th Streets for a street dance on July 11th; Sales Outlet Operator Agreement for Keno between CBLAKE, LLC and DSFRANK, LLC approved; Chairperson Frank refrained from vote on both Bar/Keno items. Chair highlights: Update provided on dangerous building properties at 150 South Street and 400 A Street — certified letters were received by property owners in early May, no meeting was requested within the 14-day period; village attorney to advise on next steps. A property clean-up reminder letter will be included in the June invoice mailing. Board notified that annexation of a portion of 805 A Street property last April may result in additional highway allocation funds for the village in the future. Tower designs discussed. Well and Transmission Grant update provided by Trustee Wilken — village initially approved for a new well house and filtration system, pending two additional levels of final government approval. Rooster Ordinance discussion initiated by Trustee Benedict; clerk to prepare two written ordinance options for the June meeting.
