After splitting two duals Jan. 25, the Seward wrestling team was at the Central Conference tournament Jan. 27 and brought home a handful of medals.

Kaleb Torres led the team with a silver, placing second at 138 pounds.

“He wrestled really good,” Coach Andy Sistek said. “Now that he’s got his weight under control, he’s has a whole different perspective and energy.”

Caden Schadwinkel earned a bronze medal at 190 pounds, going 3-1 with three pins. Aidan Summa (215) and Xander Foulk (144) each finished fourth.

Sistek said Summa was able to avenge two earlier-season losses.

Overall, the team finished seventh.

“When you look at the matches and abilities, it’s a really tough conference,” Sistek said. “We are working on closing the gap. We can see progress.”

Seward was to wrestle at Nebraska City Jan. 29 and host Grand Island Northwest Jan. 30 in a rescheduled dual. On Friday, Feb. 2, the team will compete in a tournament at Fairbury in a final tune-up before districts.
