Lincoln family named Seward 2022 tourist family
Continuing a famous July 4 tradition, Seward captured a Lincoln family to be the 2022 tourist family.
After living in Wylie, Texas for 20 years, the Gonderingers, consisting of Matt and Michelle and their two daughters Macy and Megan, moved to Lincoln recently. The family first learned of Seward's July 4 celebrations when visiting family in Nebraska, and have attended ever since.
"Each year when Matt and Michelle and the girls would visit they would joke that they hoped they would get ‘kidnapped’ some day as the tourist family," Sally Wurst said. "I was excited that this year the committee was able to make that happen."
As part of the festivities, the Gonderingers will now ride in the grand parade that begins at 1st Street & Bradford Ave. at 4 p.m.

Fourth of July Schedule changes
Since printing the July 4 schedule, some changes have been made to accommodate various people.
Changes include:
Andrew Malan – Mr. Magic will perform at 9:30 a.m. in the Civic Center Auditorium.
At 10 a.m., the Ukulele Band, scheduled in the Civic Center Auditorium, was forced to cancel because of illness and will be replaced by the Dennis Bowers of Malcolm with the Dennis Bowers Harmonica Show. He will also still do his show in the Civic Center basement and feature a Harmonica Contest at the 2 p.m. event.
Dr. Jerry Pfabe was scheduled to give two presentations, one at 10 a.m. and one at 11 a.m. in the Civic Center East Fireplace Room, but he is unable to give them because of health concerns. Instead, David Seay of Humanities Nebraska will present Nebraska-themed musical performances during those time slots.
Dr. Louis Reith’s travelogue, scheduled for 11 a.m. in the Civic Center AV Room will be replaced by Sue Imig with her travelogue on “Mediterranean Adventure.” She will focus on her recent travels with a new PowerPoint presentation.
The 1 p.m. book review on “Lincoln” that was to be presented by Reith has been canceled and the noon Ukraine presentation will extend into that hour to allow plenty of time for discussion, along with questions and answers.
The free movie at the Seward Rivoli had previously scheduled the movie “Lincoln” but the movie will be replaced with “The Minions-The First Movie.” The movie is free and still starts at noon.
