Seward High was the runner-up in the Regional Academic Decathlon Contest Jan. 17. Seward competed against Omaha Marian (champion), Elkhorn North, York, Alliance and Lexington.
The all-day event at Seward High included an online testing program and a super quiz bowl, all centered on the theme of the The Roaring Twenties. SHS Academic Decathlon Coach Noelle Baker coordinated the regional event.
The team members include Alaina Bartels, Cardin Goracke, Aamiria Christian, Makennah Matulka, Marshall Seevers, Lucian Gunn, Ava Slechta, Shawn Corner, Calvin Shipley and Nathan Kulhanek.
The team is sponsored by the School District of Seward High Ability Learner Program and the Seward Rotary Club. Local Rotary liaisons are Clark Kolterman and Amber Fiala. Other local community volunteers included Riley Nuttleman and Melissa Pohl.
Top team scorer for Seward was Kayla Albright with 3,617.1 points.
Test categories included art, literature, music, math, economics, science and social science. Seward High’s Team generated a total of 65 medals with both regular team members and alternate team members in varsity, scholastic and honors divisions. Winners included:
