Seward’s volleyball team won its two matches this week, beating Aurora 25-23, 25-21, 15-25, 25-20 and Schuyler 25-10, 25-8, 25-13.

Coach Rebekah Miller said it was good to see the Bluejays start matches stronger than they did at the beginning of the season.

Against Aurora Oct. 7, however, the Jays broke down halfway through the third set and allowed the Huskies to go on two runs, she said. The team came back strong in the fourth to get the win.

“We’ve been emphasizing discipline with our entire program the past couple weeks, and it shows on the court,” Miller said.

Jackie Eberspacher led the Jays with 17 kills in the match. Taegan Weber put up 26 assists and Kennedy Dominy had 14. Grace Brees notched 19 digs.

In the win over Schuyler Oct. 9, Eberspacher finished with 12 kills, one of nine Bluejays to record at least one kill in the match.

Up next for Seward (15-10) was a home match against Crete Oct. 14. The Bluejays defeated the Cardinals  23-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-22.

The Central Conference tournament starts Thursday, Oct. 16. Seward will travel to Adams Central for its pool and play Crete and AC at 6 and 7 p.m., respectively. Finals and the consolation matches will be Saturday, Oct. 18, in Aurora.
