Seward Seniors 2-1 in tourney

The Nebraska Door and Window Seward Seniors were 2-1 in games at the Mike Collins Memorial Tournament in Elkhorn.

Seward started play june 27 with a 3-2 win over Zig Drywall. ZD pitching held Seward to one hit, a double by Cale Gardiner. Seward batters drew eight walks and were hit four times.

Connor Sveeggen pitched 3.1 innings and struck out five, with Deklan Lindau and Kyle Riley pitching in relief.

Seward lost to Gretna East 7-5 June 28. Gretna scored two in the top of the seventh to break a 5-5 tie and held Seward scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

Sveeggen was 2-3, and Gardiner hit another double. Riley hit a solo home run. Riley and Kolton Loos shared the pitching duties.

Seward came back June 29 with a 4-2 win over ETC Knights. Brycen Burt and Bostyn Happ had two hits each, with Burt hitting a double.

Karson Dyer pitched five innings and struck out four for the win. Tyler Hammond got the save with two innings of work.

Seward (11-6) was to play in the ENBL tournament in Springfield Monday and Tuesday and travel to Malcolm Wednesday, July 2, for an 8 p.m. game. On Thursday, July 3, the team is slated to play at Pius. The league tournament starts Monday, July 8.

Juniors

The Datavizion Seward Juniors were 2-1 in the Zig Drywall tournament over the weekend in Fort Calhoun. Seward opened with a 6-3 loss to Peitzmeier Demolition, but then beat Falls City 22-0 and WV Post 58 7-4.

Seward gave up four runs in the fifth against Peitzmeier that gave PD a 5-1 lead. Seward’s Landon Pelster and Quinton Hibbert had two hits each. Hibbert got the start and struck out eight in 4.1 innings.

The Falls City game was over in three innings, with Seward scoring three, nine and 10 in each frame. Jessie Leibhart, C Hansen, Pelster, Barrett Wiesen and Sam Cooksey had two hits each. Hansen hit a double and a triple and drove in four.

Pelster and Kolten Green pitched, combining for seven strikeouts in three innings.

Seward scored three in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead over WV, which then scored one in the bottom of the inning. Pelster went 4-4 with a double. Wiesen was 3-4, and Hibbert, Owen Evans and Blaise Schrad had two hits each.

Schrad pitched all six innings and struck out four.

Seward (4-9) was to play at Malcolm Wednesday, July 2, at 5:30 p.m. The area tournaments start Friday, July 11. Assignments had not been announced at press time.
