Seasons start for Legion teams

Seasons are underway for the 2022 Legion baseball teams.

The Seward juniors opened the summer with a doubleheader sweep of Utica/Beaver Crossing/Friend May 22, winning 18-3 and 11-3 in Beaver Crossing.

In game one, Seward led 6-0 after three innings and extended the lead to 10-0 in the fourth. The UBCF  Badgers scored three in the bottom of the inning to continue the game, and Seward put it out of reach with eight in the top of the sixth.

Carl Taylor led Seward with three hits, including a double, and drove in two. Ryley Hain drove in three. Kyle Peery had two hits and two RBIs, and Kolton Loos and Braiden Herring had two hits eacach. Henry Lewis and Dylan Read also drove in two runs each.

For UBCF, Devin Slawnyk, Ryan Richters and Breckan Schluter each had one hit.

In game two, Seward scored six runs in the first inning and added two more in both the second and third. UBCF scored two in the first and one in the third.

Derek Kouma led Seward with two hits, including a double. Collin Nagel, Taylor, Huntor Towle and Hector Sanchez each drove in two runs.

Schluter, Slawnyk and Ben Sams had the hits for UBCF.

The Badgers hosted York May 24 and lost 14-6, allowing 11 first-inning runs for York.

Trevor Fehlhafer wsa 2-2 for the Badgers. Jake Leif, Slawnyk and Cooper Stelling added hits.

In seniors action, Crete Stop N Shop Post 147 came up short in its May 22 doubleheader, falling to Bellevue West 5-1 and 11-0.

Micah Hartwig and Tadd TeBrink had the team’s two hits in game one, and TeBrink drove in the team’s run. Hartwig had two of the team’s three hits in game two, with Travis Sweeney collecting the other.
