Roger Lee Gomez was born in Wichita, Kansas, on March 18, 1947, to Cecil and Ilene (Farmer) Gomez and passed away in Lincoln on Oct. 21, 2022, at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 3 days.

Roger and his family lived in various places until he was older. He loved to play baseball in his younger years and was involved in track and cross country while in high school. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1965. On July 6, 1966, Roger enlisted into the U.S. Army and was discharged on April 15, 1968. After his time in the Army, he worked construction for a short time before going to work at Goodyear. It was there that he met his wife, Jan Lackey. The couple got married June 2, 1989, and have lived in Seward ever since. Roger was an avid golfer and got a hole-in-one on hole 7 with Buzz Freitas as his witness at the Seward Country Club. Roger loved to gamble and enjoyed traveling to many places to watch college football games and loved to watch Major League Baseball. His favorite sports teams were the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Roger in preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Gilbert Gomez.

Survivors cherishing Roger’s memory include his wife, Jan Gomez; siblings, Donna Davis, Robert and wife, Kathlene Gomez and Margaret Ann Neal; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Julie Reynolds, Jeanine Lackey, Joni and husband, Dan Hicks and Jon Lackey; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
