Rain rearranges Broncos' week

The Centennial softball team saw its schedule upended by rain last week and ended up with just one game in the books, a 15-1 loss to Blue River (David City) Sept. 17.

Because of the conditions, the game was played at Sandhills Global Youth Center in Lincoln. CHS Coach Holly Borchers said the girls had fun playing there, but adjusting to the turf field was a challenge for some.

"It was a rough game. We were not ready to play," she said.

Blue River scored 10 runs in the second inning to put the game out of reach early. Five more runs in the third ended the game early via the run rule.

Paityn Scheele, Emery Menze and Lynly Leif each had hits for the Broncos, with Leif hitting a double.

Centennial rebounded from that loss with a 4-2 win over Milford Sept. 21 in a game that was rescheduled from Sept. 15.

Milford took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and held on to that until the fifth frame, when Centennial scored four runs. Kenzie Stoll was 2-3 with a double for the Broncos.

Centennial (8-11) was to play at Polk County Sept. 22, travel to Kearney for a triangular with Kearney Catholic and Lexington Thursday, Sept. 24, and compete in the Southern Nebraska Conference tournament at Milford Saturday, Sept. 26.

Centennial is the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will play Fillmore Central, the No. 5 seed, at 9 a.m. at Welch Park.
