The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a homicide that occurred overnight in Seward.
At approximately 11:46 p.m. Saturday, Seward County dispatch received a 911 call reporting a disturbance at a residence in the 600 block of North Second Street in Seward. Officers arrived on scene and observed an adult male exiting the residence, suffering from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Inside the residence, officers located a deceased adult female with multiple gunshot wounds.
The male party was transported to Seward Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He has since been transferred to UNMC in Omaha for additional treatment.
The Nebraska State Patrol was requested to conduct a homicide investigation. Investigators have discovered that the woman had a protection order against the man. After preliminary investigation, it is believed the male subject entered the home, shot the woman multiples times, then shot himself.
Names of those involved are being withheld at this time pending family notification. Additional information will be released when possible. There is no danger to the public. NSP has been assisted on scene by the Seward Police Department and Seward County Sheriff’s Office.
