William Henry School of the Arts holds recital April 20

Seward's William Henry School of the Arts held their spring recital on April 20 at Seward High School. Dancers performed a mixture of ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and hip hop combinations. The studio does provide offerings during the summer as mini workshops and camps.

Vacha goes on new adventure

Jays runners-up at meet

Both the Seward boys' and girls' track teams were runner-up at the Yowell Invitational in York April 20. Both Grace Brees and Kelsey Miller won four golds for the SHS girls, while Lovely Hibbert swept the throws. In the boys' competition, Jackson Einspahr was the 800-meter champion, and Ed Knott won the high jump.

CHS falls in two at Central City

The Centennial baseball team battled but fell short in a triangular at Central City April 20, losing to Malcolm 19-1 and to Central City/Centura 10-0. The Broncos are next in action Tuesday at home against Maxwell.

Malcolm splits triangular

The Malcolm baseball team splits its games at the Central City triangular April 20, beating Centennial 19-1 and losing to Central City/Centura 10-5. Half of Malcolm's 14 hits against Centennial were for extra bases. The Clippers outhit CCC 13-6 in the loss.

SHS sweeps home tournament

A pair of 2-1 wins April 20 gave the Seward baseball team the title in its home invitational. SHS beat Omaha Concordia and Wayne, both in walk-off fashion. Against OC, Braiden Herring hit a bases loaded single with two outs in the seventh to drive in the winning run. Finn Hochstein pitched all seven innings and struck out nine. Against Wayne, Carter Ernesti hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to end the game. SHS will host Blair this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

EVENTS

TODAY - Buddy check

A social gathering of veterans dedicated to reducing and eliminating veteran suicide will be from 7 – 9 p.m. at the VFW, 243 S. Ninth St., in Seward. The group meets monthly on the 22nd.

The Seward Rotary Club’s Fourth of July Royalty are selected each year by their personal essays, no more than 500 words, on the topic “Why I like to live in Seward!”
The contest is free to all area Seward students. The entries are due Monday, May 20, for judging.
