Minutes from The Village of Bee Board of Trustees (Unapproved) May 13, 2026 The regular meeting of the Village of Bee Board of Trustees was called to order by Board Chair Chris Shipley at 6:57 p.m. Roll call was answered by C. Shipley, S. Craig, E. Simpson, E. Hartwell, and C. Kirby. Clerk/Treasurer J. Brown was also present, along with several residents. The board reviewed the minutes. C. Kirby moved to approve the regular meeting minutes and the executive session minutes. S. Craig seconded the motion. All voted in favor, and the motion carried. Sheriff: No report. WATER & SEWER OPERATOR REPORT Donald reported that he still has two hydrants to flush. VOLUNTEER FIRE: R. Craig and S. Craig were present at the dump burn. MAINTENANCE The John Deere equipment was out of warranty and was repaired. NEW BUSINESS Operations and Facilities Mosquito spraying is scheduled for June. Streets and Grounds Ray presented street repair and resurfacing information, including bid estimates. Building and Ballroom Repairs and painting for the building and ballroom remain under review. EMC Insurance estimates and quoted repairs will be considered as part of the review, and the Ballroom Committee will remain involved in the repair and painting process. E. Simpson reported that about 10 window screens need repair and will check with Seward Lumber. R. White will contact Window World about the broken windows. Nuisance issues need to be addressed. In the past, letters were drafted, and follow-up is needed after 90 days. The Village ordinance guidelines and the Village website should be referenced for the specific issue involved. A liquor license is needed for a September wedding. E. Hartwell moved to approve it, C. Kirby seconded the motion, and all voted in favor. Possible grants for street repair were discussed. E. Simpson and E. Hartwell will investigate available options. Concrete repair is needed for the dumpster pad, along with gutter repairs due to winter ice damage. The Fire Department credit card limit needs to be increased to avoid declined charges, especially when a truck is in the shop. The board agreed to raise the limit to $10,000. E. Simpson approved, E. Hartwell seconded, and all voted in favor. The May 19 Council Advocacy meeting was canceled. Work on the recycling issue is ongoing. ANNOUNCEMENTS/PUBLIC COMMENTS A resident spoke about the old school building and the possibility of buying and remodeling it for residential use. The property belongs to the Village of Bee through 2028 and is currently considered uninhabitable due to asbestos. Loose dogs were discussed. Residents were recommended to contact the Sheriff, and it was noted that some people have avoided visiting Bee Park because dogs have been running loose. The need for a welcome packet for new families moving to Bee was discussed, and the clerk was asked to prepare packet. Shipley asked whether there were any questions about the claims. C. Kirby moved to approve the claims, and E. Hartwell seconded the motion. All voted in favor, and the motion carried.
